The show list (revised)
I’ve updated the list of shows I’ve seen and posted it finally. I need to get back into keeping track of all the shows I go to—had to hunt around for ticket stubs and reviews and pictures I’ve posted various places to get this thing updated.
I’m sure there’s some I’ve forgotten.
Some favorite live pics I’ve taken over the years…

I’m thinking of taking Nathaniel and Dillun to see Tapes’n'Tapes tonight but not sure I want to spend the money right now.
Bolded shows I’m for sure going to.
I’m also thinking of catching Brant Bjork at the Viper Room since Fatso’s opening. (My friend Tony’s band.) I think Daniel might come to the Alex’s Bar (Long Beach) show, but he tends to flake out so probably not.
Awesome list, you will see me copying the idea very soon. I want to make a list of shows I’ve seen, or bands I’ve seen and amounts. Dont think I could remember specific dates and venues though. Baaaaaaad memory.
I am thinking of going to
5.15 - Brant Bjork and the Bros, Fatso Jetson - Viper Room ($12)
5.16 - Big Business. 400 Blows, Qui - Charlie O’s
5.17 - Brant Bjork and the Bros, Ramon-Ahs - Alex’s Bar ($8)
5.17 - Totimoshi, It’s Casual, Eagle Twin - Relax Bar ($10)
one of the above
6.14 - Earthless, Ancestors, Tweak Bird, Jesus Makes the Shotgun Sound, David Scott Stone - The Smell ($5)
6.19 - Earth, Jesse Sykes & The Sweet Hereafter - Echo ($13)
really wish there was a show this weekend!
What are Earth like? I know I’ve heard about them before (that’s the guy who gave Kurt Cobain the shotgun) but I’ve never seen them. I have seen Jesse Sykes a couple times—three times, to be precise :) —and would like to see her again. The guitarist in her band used to be in Whiskeytown. Maybe I’ll take Nathaniel (and Dillun) to that show, it’ll be all ages. Not quite like a Converge show, though.
Where is Charlie O’s? Is that a bar or will it be all ages?
Oh wait, I have a few Earth albums. Very drony. I think I’ll plan on that show for sure.
And what a weird lineup! Earth with Jesse Sykes?
Yeah, Earth helped start the drone thing. Joe Preston of the Melvins and…well you know, was in their early lineup. For those that don’t know they took their name form the original name of Black Sabbath and Sunn was originally an Earth cover band. The new Earth sound and lineup is different than previous, more of a country western thing. They use steel guitars now and it sounds like a heavy doomy version of Neil Youngs ‘Dead Man’ soundtrack. I really like ‘Hex:Printing in the Infernal Method’. I’m not a Sunn fan but I do like Earth alot.
Charlie O’s is in downtown near the Smell and Skid Row, I guess thats becoming a cool neighborhood. I saw Tweak Bird, 400 Blows there with Ancestors, you might like them kinda like Neurosis I guess. I think it’s a bar-bar, doubt its all ages, its a cool place though, nice pool tables, pinball machines and a weird dark vibe.
Hope to see you around town soon!
Is Jesse Sykes kinda Alt-Country? Wondering, if she has the Whiskey Town guitarist with her. Were they alt country? I’m just searching for a connection here, you could called newer earth country-drone. ha ha…..
Yeah she’s alt country, but very slow and quiet with it. I hadn’t realized Earth had sort of moved that direction. Should be an good show! I can send you some Jesse Sykes if you want.
I’m thinking about trying to make it up for the Viper Room Brant show just because Fatso’s playing. But I doubt I will. Weeknights are so hard. If you come down to the LB show we’ll for sure be able to meet up.
cool…. I just might.
And my wish of a weekend show came true ….. in Pomona!
